Learning to speak German
  • Is this course for you?

    Ideally, students will have a good command of present and perfect tense plus knowledge of adjectival agreement, cases of dative and accusative, word order. The ability to have a conversation, using simple language with clear pronunciation, knowledge of topics such as meeting people, ordering food and drink, directions, travelling by train, shopping, talking about past, describing items of personal appearance amongst others.

  • Required qualifications

    No formal qualifications are needed but ideally, an Intermediate course or having had exposure to the language by living in German-speaking counties for longer period of time.

  • What skills will I develop?

    You will be able to acquire the four language skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing in German that would enable you to communicate effectively with native speakers.

  • Careers

    After a year’s tuition, progression to the Advanced class.

  • English and maths

    Students benefit from acquiring a good understanding of basic English grammar through German grammar.

    The ability to use numbers is very important to everyone, in any language, in all sorts of situations, like asking the time, exchanging currency, enquiring about arriving and leaving times of transport, adding and subtracting to find the value of something, etc.

  • Other important information

    This course runs for 3 terms of 10 weeks each, usually starting in September.

    You will need access to a dictionary, hard copy or digital and a lever arch file for work done in class or at home.
