  • Is this course for you?

Need a GCSE in maths to take the next step in your career or training and need it fast? Then this online course could be for you.

South Staffordshire College is giving you the opportunity to achieve a GCSE Maths qualification over a 5-month period (Jan to June), rather than having to study for the whole academic year.

You will undertake a 2.5-hour online class weekly, via Microsoft Teams and have independent tasks set which you can complete in your own time. You will be working alongside like-minded people in a proactive online environment with professional and experienced maths tutors.

  • Required qualifications

You will have a previous grade 3/D in GCSE maths and or a Level 1 Functional Skills maths qualification. These grades need to be supported by a strong initial assessment score (initial assessment can be taken at one of our open days).

  • What skills will I develop?

The course will allow you to progress towards grade 4 and above

    • You will undertake a range of engaging and fun activities in line with the EdExcel maths specification, which will improve your understanding and ability to:
    • Use number effectively, for instance fractions, decimals and percentages
    • Use algebra, including formula and graphs
    • Use Ratio, proportion and rates of change, including scale, rates of change and conversion of measurements
    • Use Geometry, for example calculating area, volume and perimeter
    • Use probability and statistics

Not only will we get you exam ready but improve the skills above so that you can apply them to the world of work and life successfully.

  • Careers

A GCSE Grade 4 or above opens many doors for you. You may be looking to continue your education by going to University and require this qualification for entry to the course. Job opportunities in all areas and promotion within your chosen career can also be more accessible with a GCSE Maths qualification.

You may just want to improve on your previous qualifications for yourself, and why not!

  • Other important information

The course concludes with three paper-based exams which are externally set by Edexcel and the dates of these exams are set by external agents. At present we have a provisional timetable for these exams which is subject to change.

Although the course is online, exams need to be attended at one of our campuses.
