    Are you looking to develop your baking skills? Do you want to learn how to bake and decorate a cake to be the centre piece of a birthday party/wedding or other celebration? Have you enjoyed watching the Great British Bake Off and want to know how to do this for yourself? Do you just simply enjoy baking and want to learn new skills? If any of the above applies, then this could be the masterclass for you!

    Our cakemaking masterclass offers a perfect introduction to baking and will help you develop the skills and techniques to bake and decorate a 2-tier cake. The masterclass runs over 1 day and will be ideal for those looking to learn new skills quickly or just to refresh existing ones. The masterclass may also help you take the first steps towards a potential new career within the catering industry.

  • Required qualifications

    No formal qualifications required, although a keen interest in cookery and learning new skills is vital.

  • What skills will I develop?

    You will develop new skills alongside the opportunity to develop existing ones such as:

    • Teamwork
    • Communication
    • Food hygiene
    • Food health and safety

    The masterclass will provide you with a variety of techniques that will help you to follow recipes, manage timings and measure ingredients to bake and decorate a 2 tier cake.

    Alongside this you will develop your knowledge of health and safety that surrounds the industry and put this into practice within our working kitchen.

  • Careers

    You could look to join one of our full-time courses or explore other short courses/masterclasses (such our introduction to breadmaking/3 course creation masterclass) to help further your skills, knowledge and employability skills.

    You may want to put your new skills to use in the industry and seek employment. If this is the case you could consider jobs in:

    • Chain and Hotel Restaurants
    • Pubs
    • Cruise Ships
    • Armed Forces
    • Schools
    • NHS
    • Private Chef
    • Events or location catering/weddings

    Salary – You can earn on average between £13,000 and £50,000 a year as a chef in the UK. Your starting salary can vary because of factors like level of experience, training, location or the size of the company. Your salary as a chef will increase over time as you build your skills, knowledge and experience.

  • Work experience

    You will not be required to undertake work experience as part of this qualification, although the skills you will gain on the course will no doubt provide you with valuable employability skills that will support you in future employment within the industry.

  • English and maths

    You will not be required to study formal qualifications in English or maths as part of this course, although you will develop such skills as they are embedded into the qualification.
