    In this comprehensive cake decorating course, students will learn the art of decorating cakes using different mediums including buttercream, chocolate, sugarpaste, marzipan, and flowerpaste. Buttercream skills are taught from September to December, sugarpaste and marzipan skills are taught from January to April, and sugarpaste flower skills are taught from May to July. This course is designed for beginners and intermediate cake decorators who want to expand their skills and create beautiful and professional-looking cakes.

    Throughout the course, students will receive hands-on instruction and guidance from an experienced cake decorator. They will have the opportunity to practice their skills and create their own designs under the supervision of their instructor. By the end of the course, students will have gained a solid foundation in cake decorating and be able to create stunning and unique cakes using a range of mediums.

  • Required qualifications

    No formal qualifications are required just an enthusiasm for the subject.

  • What skills will I develop?

    Buttercream Skills

    • Will cover understanding the properties and uses of buttercream in cake decorating and how to store them.
    • Master basic cake decorating techniques such as covering a cake with buttercream and adding simple piping techniques.
    • Explore other equipment that will enhance your makes.
    • Gain confidence in their cake decorating abilities and create stunning and unique cakes using a range of mediums.

    Sugarpaste and Marzipan Skills

    • Will cover how to make your own sugarpaste and colour it.
    • Explore how to use tools and embossers.
    • Master covering a cake using sugarpaste giving a smooth surface and sharp edges.
    • Experiment using moulds and make a simple animal shaped model.

    Sugarpaste Flowers

    • Will cover how to make delicate petals using sugarpaste and how to bring your creations together to make a beautiful floral arrangement to decorate your cake or cakes with.
    • Each week you will progress onto the next stage of this creative skill to pull your masterpiece together using cutters and tools and adding sugarpaste leaves.
  • Careers

    After this course you can progress onto a qualification course to further your career. There may be an opportunity to enhance your skills the following year with further masterclasses.

    English and maths is embedded within the course.

  • Other important information

    Students will be provided with a list of equipment and ingredients they will need to bring to each session.

    Please ensure you have an apron to wear.
