  • Is this course for you?

    The purpose and aim of the IMI Level 4 Certificate in Advanced Automotive Studies is to offer individuals, who are experienced technicians/engineers in the automotive industry, with the opportunity to develop their knowledge of:

    • Management principles
    • Advanced vehicle technologies, including alternative fuel vehicles
    • Liaising with manufacturers and suppliers on technical matters
    • Providing colleagues with technical advice and support
    • Undertaking diagnostic consultations with customers

    This qualification contains 2 pathways; light vehicle & heavy vehicle. Therefore learners can select the pathway appropriate to their sector experience.

    Learners undertaking this qualification will enjoy liaising with people. They will support a team, delegate work and provide technical guidance and coaching. They will advise customers on technical issues and deal with complaints. Learners may have recently progressed into management, or have been identified as having future management potential.

    Available at our Rodbaston College on a Monday and Tuesday evening.

    Available at our Tamworth College on a Wednesday and Thursday evening.

    Cost: £2,500

  • Required qualifications

    The typical learner for this qualification will be 19 years plus, working in industry and will hold a Level 3 automotive technical qualification and/or an Advanced Apprenticeship. They will have experience of diagnosing and rectifying faults on a wide range of vehicle systems, including electrical system operations.

    Where mature students wish to have prior education and/or experience taken into account, in lieu of meeting the full course entry requirements, they should contact the relevant Course Director by 12th August, as an application deadline will apply.

    • Advanced Internal Combustion Engine Technology
    • Advanced Vehicle Body Electrics
    • Knowledge of Alternative Fuel Vehicles
    • Knowledge in Conducting Diagnostic Consultations with Customers in Automotive Environments
    • Advanced Light Vehicle Driveline and Chassis Technology

    The qualification has been designed to be practical, engaging and motivating to support learners in gaining the advanced knowledge and skills required by light vehicle employers. Once you have achieved this qualification you can progress to higher education in automotive and engineering subjects, or to a job role in light vehicle as advanced technicians / engineers.

  • English and maths

    Whilst at South Staffordshire College, you will be given the opportunity to improve your maths and English skills by continuing to study at GCSE or Functional Skill level. We have a great team working alongside your main course tutors with the skills and knowledge to improve your maths and English skills.

  • Other important information

    You are required to purchase safety boots, work gear and details of these will be discussed at interview. All other equipment such as power tools and safety aids, PPE, are supplied by the college as required.

    Additional home study will be required as part of this course.
