Beauty Massage

  • Is this course for you?

    Our body massage course teaches you the most common and effective type of massage currently offered by holistic therapists, using Swedish techniques. You will learn both the theoretical knowledge and the practical skills to be able to competently perform a range of body massage treatments.

    In addition, you will develop an understanding of the structure and function of the human body, health and safety practises, and how to provide client consultations and carry out a body massage routine. This will provide you with the required knowledge and skills to allow you to earn up to £50 an hour from home or mobile offering such treatments.

    Students will be required to purchase a uniform and a kit prices are available from the Learner Services Team on request. In addition, there may be extra-curricular trips which have additional costs. Prices and details will be discussed at interview. Bursary funds may be available to help with additional costs. As with all FE college courses, you will also be expected to provide your own stationery and always attend college fully equipped for lessons with a folder, note paper and writing implements.

  • Required qualifications

    Our Certificate in Body Massage courses are suitable for complete beginners and do not require any prior learning to be able to train with us; many of our students are not yet beauty trained and are looking to start up a business in the industry. We welcome students of all abilities, whether you are looking to learn a new skill from scratch or currently working as a therapist and looking to refresh your knowledge of particular treatments.

  • What skills will I develop?

    Using a variety of massage movements from the Swedish technique, you will learn how to perform a Body Massage routine that works to stimulate circulation, promotes relaxation and keeps muscle tissue more supple. The Body Massage routine will cover legs, arms, back, neck and shoulders. The treatment is most effective when received on a regular basis, enticing your clients to return for regular bookings, establishing a continuous source of income.

    You will give and receive body massage treatments as part of this course. Students work upon each other for formative assessments; however, models are required for summative assessments. Training sessions can be mixed sex depending on bookings made, however privacy screens are used to ensure all student discretion.

    Much of the theory qualification is completed in college however home-study is necessary, including written coursework making this an ideal route for those who wish to study flexibly around other commitments. The written coursework is to be submitted and marked by an assessor before you can be progressed to the assessment stage.

  • Careers

    The Certificate in Body Massage enable you to work from both home and mobile offering the specialised treatment(s) that you have completed. You can start earning by offering treatments to paying clients as soon as you have obtained your insurance.

    Employment in the beauty industry is on the rise with currently nearly 4,000 people employed in the West Midlands and an expected growth of 2.6% within the next 3 years.

  • English and maths

    English and maths are integral to gaining employment and are included on every study programme to support your development and progression in these important skills. Within our massage qualification development of maths and English will be embedded into each of the sessions and will help to develop your confidence in dealing with a number of core skills, such as; costs of treatments, effective communication with clients, timings for treatments and the taking bookings.
