  • Is this course for you?

    The Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Engineering Technology will give you with the next steps you need following either your GCSEs or any introduction to the practices and processes of engineering technology. The qualification covers knowledge and skills that are relevant to a wide variety of careers and study routes and take a hands-on approach to engineering training by providing learners with:

    • Experience and understanding of a range of potential careers in the engineering sector.
    • Information that will help them make more informed decisions about their career options.
    • Transferable skills and skills that are not widely advanced through the traditional academic curriculum.

    This is a graded qualification; learners can achieve a Pass, Merit or Distinction.

  • Required qualifications

    You will need to already have achieved either three GCSE’s, including maths, at grade 4 or above or have a level 2 engineering qualification.

  • What skills will I develop?

    This qualification has core mandatory units, which provides learners with knowledge of the engineering environment, techniques and principles within the engineering sector.

    Health & Safety

    This unit enables the learner to acquire the essential knowledge and understanding of the engineering environment in relation to the requirements of current legislation, working safely, personal development and the factors that influence the engineering industry.

    Auto-CAD

    This unit enables the learner to develop an awareness of the techniques employed in engineering to communicate, measure and the use of basic drawing systems

    Engineering further principles

    This unit enables the learner to develop knowledge and understanding of the types of materials and their properties, fundamental numeracy and science applied to engineering practice.

    Advanced CNC machining and Advanced Milling

    This unit enables the learner to acquire the essential knowledge and practice to achieve turning and milling skills.

  • Careers

    This qualification once completed can lead to a career as a Mechanical Fitter, Maintenance Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, Sheet Metal Worker, CNC operator or many other engineering careers. Or progression onto the Foundation Degree in Engineering.

  • English and maths

    Whilst at South Staffordshire college, you will be given the opportunity to improve your maths and English skills by continuing to study at GCSE or Functional Skill level. We have a great team working alongside your main course tutors with the skills and knowledge to improve your maths and English skills.

  • Other important information

    Buying tools and uniform are not required to take this course, however if you would like to build up on your own tools you are able to purchase these and bring them bring them with you.
