    Are you an experienced veterinary nurse working with the supply or dispensing of medicines?

    This evening revision course is tailored for RVNs preparing to sit the AMTRA SQP (Suitably Qualified Person) examination. It is ideal for those who have years of practical experience but need a focused, supportive refresher to consolidate knowledge before the exam.

    The course covers core legislation, exam questions, revision strategies and exam technique. You’ll explore real-world scenarios, build confidence in regulation-based decisions and practise answering sample questions aligned to the AMTRA assessment.

    If you’re due to sit the C-SQP exam and want to give yourself the best chance of success, this course is for you.

  • Required qualifications

    • You must be a qualified and Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN)
    • You must have experience working in a dispensary or supplying veterinary medicines
    • You should already be registered to undertake the AMTRA SQP exam or intending to do so
    • A basic understanding of the VMD categories and Code of Practice is useful
  • What skills will I develop?

    • Familiarity with VMR legislation and SQP prescribing responsibilities
    • Understanding of the POM-VPS, NFA-VPS and AVM-GSL classifications
    • Exam technique for answering multiple choice and written questions
    • Approaches for revising and applying content from the AMTRA syllabus
    • Confidence to apply the legislation to practical scenarios in practice
  • Careers

    After completing this course and passing the AMTRA exam, you can:

    • Join the VetSkill Register as a C-SQP
    • Legally prescribe and supply veterinary medicines under the VMR
    • Take on more responsibility within your practice dispensary
    • Work in veterinary pharmacies, pet retail or animal health sectors

    You’ll also be required to complete CPD and maintain your annual AMTRA registration.

  • Work experience

    You will benefit most if you:

    • Currently work in a veterinary practice
    • Are involved in dispensing, prescribing, or advising on veterinary medicines
    • Can relate course content to real workplace experience in line with the AMTRA Code of Practice
  • English and maths

    There are no formal English or maths qualifications required, but you must:

    • Be confident reading and interpreting legislation
    • Have the written skills to complete short and long-answer exam questions
    • Be able to engage with multiple-choice questions under timed conditions
  • Other important information

    • This is a short evening course (1 session)
    • Delivered in person by experienced veterinary educators
    • Includes revision techniques and sample questions
    • Helps candidates prepare specifically for the AMTRA SQP exam
    • Based at South Staffordshire College, Rodbaston Campus
    • Open to external candidates preparing for the AMTRA assessment
