  • Is this course for you?

    Ideally, students will have a good command of present, present progressive and simple past tenses plus knowledge of adjectival agreement, word order and punctuation. The ability to have a conversation, using simple language with clear pronunciation, about basic topics such as meeting people, ordering food and drink, directions, travelling by train, tourist information, and shopping amongst others.

  • Required qualifications

    There is no need for a formal qualification, students need to have been learning an Italian course at intermediate level or need to refresh a GCSE qualification. Also eligible are those who may have lived in an Italian-speaking country for a number of years and communicated in Italian.

  • What skills will I develop?

    The course will enable you to acquire advanced speaking and listening skills in Italian so that you can communicate effectively with native speakers. The emphasis will be on oral/aural skills. Reading and writing will be practiced mainly through homework set at end of lessons.

  • Careers

    This is a leisure course with no formal qualifications at the end. However, some previous students have successfully applied for jobs in Italy or have used the language in their jobs in England.

  • English and maths

    Students benefit from acquiring a good understanding of basic English grammar through Italian grammar. In addition, numbers are very important to everyone in all sorts of situations like asking the price of an item, asking the time, purchasing food and enquiring about arriving and leaving times of transport, adding and subtracting to find the value of something, etc.

  • Other important information

    This course runs for 3 terms of 10 weeks each, usually starting in September. You will need access to a dictionary, hard copy or digital and a lever arch file for work done in class or at home.

    You have to be aged 19 years and above to join this course.
