  • Is this course for you?

    This course is designed to provide you with the skills to assist in the design, development, build and evaluation of a website via user interaction and user experience.

    The skills learnt will provide you with an understanding of design theory, users, and usability requirements and how to apply these through front-end and back end development.

    This will be done by providing both an appreciation of web aesthetics and practicalities of online design combined with the understanding of the code used to develop a website (HTML and JavaScript).

    You will learn about design process, critical, creative and design thinking, rapid prototyping and how to use software to code your site.

    Within the course there are aspects of collaborative design and critical analysis applied to allow you to hone their craft and to work towards designing and developing an innovative, creative, and workable website.

  • Required qualifications

    No formal qualifications are required, but an understanding of computing, graphic or web design would be beneficial but not essential.

  • What skills will I develop?

    • How to apply creative and aesthetic design choices to your own work
    • An understanding of how to profile customers, clients, and user needs
    • Software skills in Adobe packages
    • An understanding of user interfaces and user focused design
    • Basic understanding of coding conventions in HTML and JavaScript
    • How to collaborate and critically analyse work
  • Careers

    This course is intended to provide you with the principles of web design (design and coding) and how to apply these to create successful web pages.

    This course could be taken further via FE and HE study or applied to your own company or web presence or personal work.

  • English and maths

    English: Learners will develop verbal communication skills through class activities and discussions. Their spelling and grammar will be met through completion of exercises.

    Maths: Learners will develop confidence in maths through creating and editing skills.

  • Other important information

    This is a short course (3 hours a week) running over seven weeks (taking into consideration holidays) with a total of 21 hours’ worth of face-to-face teaching.

    It is expected, if needed, that learners will work on tasks and assignments in their own time to assist in putting together the learning objectives for this course.
