    On this 8-week introductory course, you will develop an understanding of the knowledge and skills required to become a Teaching Assistant. The course is ideal for people looking to return to work, re-train or work as a teaching assistant. Advice and guidance on progression opportunities and qualification courses will be offered.

  • Required qualifications

    No qualifications needed, enthusiasm and commitment required.

  • What skills will I develop?

    You will learn about school structures, systems and procedures and the school day and classroom organisation. Identify the role of the teaching assistant and determine the personal and professional qualities required in the role. Learn about learning styles and identify how these impact on learning. The Awareness of the national curriculum and exploring literacy and numeracy strategies. Identify SEN at the present time. Awareness of the specific learning difficulties and the mechanisms available to support pupils. Understand the principles of Child Protection Policies and confidentiality.

    You can progress to a qualification course to further your career.

  • English and maths

    English and maths will be embedded in the course structure.

  • Other important information

    • You will require a notepad and writing materials.
    • The course is for adult learners who are aged 19+.
