Introduction to Painting and Decorating – Evening Class

  • Is this course for you?

    The construction industry is heavily dependent on the adequate supply of a skilled labour force, and as a result the skilled labour shortage in the UK has received considerable attention in recent years. With the current economic recovery the industry is expected to experience considerable skills shortages in both traditional and new skills areas. 

    Are you a Plumber, Carpenter, Painter/Decorator, Plaster, tiling?

    Know a trade but looking for a change?

    The aim of this Painting and Decorating course is to develop the basic practical skills that are required to carry out basic tasks. The course consists of practical lessons delivered in “real work” situations and you will be trained to use the tools a professional painter and decorator would use on site.

  • Required qualifications

    No qualifications are required to apply for the course, just a willingness to learn new skills.

  • What skills will I develop?

    You will be introduced to all the tools and materials that are used within the industry. You will develop skills that will enable you to complete Basic maintenance tasks that are also covered on the course.

    On this course you will learn different tasks in the trade, you will learn how to prepare areas before painting this will include repairing imperfections, the different paints and brushes. How to cut around obstructions, openings and fittings and you will also learn how to properly cut, paste and hang wallpaper.

    In addition, we will cover aspects of working safely as well as explain and demonstrate the required tools of the trade and give plenty of decorating tips.

  • Careers

    You may want to further enhance your knowledge by applying for a level 1 or level 2 full time trade daytime course. You could also try one of our other construction introduction evening classes. Your CV will also be enhanced by passing the introduction to finishing trades course that would make you more employable within the construction industry.

  • English and maths

    Throughout the course we will enhance your maths and English skills by incorporating maths and English tasks within the practical sessions.

  • Other important information

    All tools and materials will be supplied by the college. All learners will be required to bring their own toe-protective footwear and clothing that is appropriate for a construction workshop environment. The learner will not carry out any formal assessment and work can be done at their own pace during the course.
