  • Is this course for you?

    This qualification is suitable for parents and volunteers wishing to participate in working with children in an early years setting and allows learners to gain an understanding of the different types of early years’ settings.

  • Required qualifications

    There are no formal entry requirements, however it is useful to be volunteering in an Early Years setting and you must have a passion for working with children.

  • What skills will I develop?

    The course is made up of three topics that will help you develop an understanding of the roles and responsibilities in an early years setting, these include how an early years setting is managed and organised. There will also be the opportunity to develop knowledge of the importance of play for babies and young children.

  • Careers

    This qualification will not lead directly to employment. However, it does provide a starting point for you to decide whether a career in an early years setting is right for you. It could also support you to re-engage with learning and break down barriers to entering the workplace. It is a stepping stone to the L2 Diploma in Early Years, and provides skills and knowledge that will enhance job opportunities in the childcare sector, into potential roles such as:

    • Creche Assistant
    • Nursery Assistant
    • Under 5s Playgroup Assistant
    • Parent/toddler Group Assistant
  • Work experience

    There is no requirement to for work experience, however it would be beneficial to be able to undertake some work experience as part of the course. In order to do this, you would need to have DBS clearance at a cost of £44.00.

  • English and maths

    There will be no requirement to undertake maths and English as part of this course, however in order to progress in your career in working with children, it is favourable to have GCSEs in maths and English at a 4 or above or the equivalent.
