    If you’re wanting to come to college but feeling unsure or confused about your next steps, or not quite ready to do a full-on training course? The is an excellent choice to develop your confidence, skills and gain new qualifications. As an introductory Level 1 based course, you’ll learn all the essential skills needed to boost your CV and stand out – giving you the best chance to secure that interview or get the dream traineeship or apprenticeship you always wanted.

  • Required qualifications

    As the course is to build your progress, no previous qualifications are required. After 10 weeks, you’ll be ready to move towards the next steps to #CreateYourCareer with extra skills, knowledge, and confidence.

  • What skills will I develop?

    This Introduction to College course is designed to increase your essential skills, helping you to become more ready for a full-time course, a future apprenticeship or employment. As a tailored training course, the qualifications and knowledge are arranged into the following areas:

    Term 1 – (Skills)

    • Essential digital skills
    • Behaviours and attitudes required for employment
    • Equality and diversity in the workplace

    Term 2 – (Self-Management)

    • Teambuilding
    • Mental health awareness
    • Managing your own finances

    Term 3 – (Specialisms)

    • Employability skills linked to your chosen career path
    • Creating an online profile
    • Study skills
  • Careers

    With your new skills and qualifications, you could progress onto these types of roles:

    • Call centre operative
    • Childcare practitioner
    • Hair salon assistant
    • Warehouse operative
    • Engineer

    To help increase your skills and give you more of an opportunity to secure further training or employment, you could also move straight into full-time education once you have completed your course.

  • English and maths

    As a student at South Staffordshire College, you will have the opportunity to complete your maths and English GCSE or Functional Skills.

  • Other important information

    You will need a folder, pen and paper when attending each class, both in-person and lessons delivered remotely.
