  • Is this course for you?

    The course will provide technical and creative skills to be honed into a portfolio/digital artefact suited for the development of character design for the gaming industry or animation sectors.

    The core teaching elements the course will provide focus on the development of skills based around the merging of both creative and technical aspects and the necessity for style, aesthetics and world-building to work in conjunction with software and the digital environment.

    The work developed on the course will encompass the creation of a portfolio that show your initial ideas, research, design/development (mood board, mind mapping) and application of these creative decisions into a gaming world using conventions and ‘rules’ of gamification.

  • Required qualifications

    No formal qualifications are required, but an understanding of computing would be beneficial.

  • What skills will I develop?
    1. The application of theme, style and aesthetics to a 2D environment
    2. How to mind-map, storyboarding, script develop and generate ideas quickly
    3. The fundamentals of character animation, movement, and interaction
    4. Understanding of Gamification
    5. Industry context, team working, peer reviewing and portfolio creation

    This course is intended to provide an understanding of game and character design theory – these skills can be adapted and applied towards further FE or HE study or used within a the development of your own game.
