  • Is this course for you?

Want to improve your maths but short on time? Unable to attend college on a weekly basis and need to study from home? Our online learning maths course might be just for you!

Maths is an important skill you use every day. Maths helps with your finances, time telling, and problem-solving. Good maths skills improve your life at home and at work as it helps you make better decisions. If maths is holding you back, Functional Skills Maths is a great place to learn the basics. We’ll teach you real-world, transferable maths skills that let you think on your feet and succeed in life including improved job opportunities.

*Your English & maths course could be FREE, check your eligibility and find out more here.

  • Required qualifications

No formal qualifications are required. However, in order to find the right level of study, previous qualifications as well as a short online initial assessment will be used.

  • What skills will I develop?

Upon enrolment you will speak to one of our specialist maths teachers who will talk you through the course content and requirements, whilst determining how many hours you can dedicate to your studies. You will then receive log in details to our online learning platform which is provided by Century Tech. Century uses artificial attendance to analyse your current maths abilities and set out a pathway of study, allowing you to improve on your gaps in knowledge. As well as studying Century from the comfort of your own home, a specialist maths teacher will be on hand to give you weekly support, via email and or telephone, monitoring your progress.

Some of the key topics you will study are:

    • Add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers
    • Explain simple problems involving ratio
    • Learn the similarities between common fractions, decimals and percentages
    • Work out areas and perimeters in practical situations
    • Extract and interpret information from tables, diagrams, charts and graphs
    • Use data to assess the likelihood of an outcome

Once you feel ready, we will arrange a date for your end of course assessment, which can be taken at one of our four campuses: Rodbaston, Cannock, Lichfield and Tamworth.

  • Careers

Functional skills qualifications are recognised by a wide range of employers and industries. By gaining your qualification you will have access to a greater range of job opportunities with improved salaries.

  • Other important information

The course lasts approximately 15 weeks depending on the progress you are making. In order to complete the course in this time we recommend dedicating 3 hours per week to your studies. Remember this is all done at home, so can be split up over 7 days of studied in one go, whichever method suits you best!
