Learners will use a balance of the four key elements of language learning: listening, speaking, reading and writing to develop their knowledge and abilities within the topic areas.

    • Listening comprehension tasks will be undertaken in class using CDs and video clips.
    • Speaking of the language will be achieved via pair work role plays, small group activities, games and directed questioning.
    • Reading comprehension tasks will be given in class (as well as for homework) and learners will also read aloud in class in French.
    • Writing of French will be practised and developed mainly through homework tasks (essential for language building, especially of vocabulary and grammatical structure).

Learners will also develop their knowledge of French grammar rules (using nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives etc and imperative tense).

Learners will be able to communicate at a basic level in French within the three topic areas covered when going on holiday to France and/or interacting with French family members.

Learners will gain transferable skills useful to employers e.g. working or others and overall increased confidence, as well as their acquired French language skills.

  • Careers

Learners will gain transferable skills useful to employers e.g. working in a team, social and communication skills, an understanding of English grammar, respect for others and overall increased confidence, as well as their acquired French language skills.

Learners will also be equipped and have the confidence to progress to the next level of learning – French Beginners 3.

  • English and maths

Maths: learners will develop confidence in maths through using numbers when asking/giving age, talking about numbers of family members, asking/giving prices and practising number skills via games such as bingo.

English: learners will develop verbal communication skills through class activities with peers and through interaction with tutor. English grammar points will be highlighted and developed by means of the use of corresponding French grammar.

Digital: learners will be able to use tablets, if they wish, to access the core course resource (BBC Talk French 1). Various websites will be used to enhance the learning and learners will watch video and YouTube clips and access online language games. Emails will be exchanged between tutor and learners for updates and queries.

A Smartboard will be used in class and learners will use the Internet for research of topics as well as Google Classroom for tutor/learner, learner/tutor and learner/learner communication.
