Engineering for Adults – Level 2

  • Is this course for you?

    This course will be delivered from April to July at both our Tamworth and Cannock campuses. You will study for three days per week (18 hours) for 12 weeks to complete the qualification.

    Engineering Technology is predominantly for people who are interested in engineering and would like to acquire a basic level of knowledge and understanding about the engineering sector. The qualification is suitable for adults, who are interested in engineering technology and/or are considering a career change.

    During this course, you will study three mandatory units covering;

    • Engineering environment awareness
    • Engineering techniques
    • Engineering principles

    AND

    One optional unit which will be either;

    • Motor vehicle maintenance techniques
    • Electrical installation methods, wiring and circuit protection
    • Turning and milling techniques and technology

    Assessment is through a combination of online multiple-choice exams and practical assessments.

    Study in our purpose-built engineering workshops to gain an insight into working within the engineering industry.

  • Required qualifications

    There are no formal entry requirements for these qualifications. However, learners must have the potential to achieve all aspects of the qualification. In particular, learners should be able to demonstrate that they have the minimum levels of literacy and numeracy required to comply with the health and safety aspects of the scheme, the completion of the learning outcomes, and the assessments.

  • What skills will I develop?

    This qualification covers knowledge, understanding and skills that are relevant to a wide variety of careers and study routes and take a hands-on approach to basic engineering training by providing learners with:

    • Experience and understanding of a range of potential careers in the engineering sector.

    • Information that will help them make more informed decisions about their career options.

    • Personal skills to help them work effectively and achieve their potential.

    • Transferable skills and skills that are not widely advanced through the traditional academic curriculum, which are applicable to a wide variety of contexts and learning objectives.

    You will develop skills such as using industry standard milling and turning equipment, electrical knowledge and skills or if the optional motor vehicle unit is chosen then skills in the automotive maintenance area.

  • Careers

    Achievement of this qualification will allow learners to progress to higher level engineering qualifications and apprenticeships, which will in turn provide them with a stepping stone into employment within the engineering sector.

  • Other important information

    As a minimum, you will need a pair of steel tipped work boots to study on this course.

    Buying tools and uniform are not required to take this course, however if you would like to build up on your own tools you are able to purchase these and bring them bring them with you.
