    Highly trained professionals who play a key role in ensuring that young children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe.

    Which job roles is this Apprenticeship suitable for?

    Job roles such as nursery nurse and childminders, who are highly trained professionals playing a key role in ensuring that young children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe. They work in a range of settings including full day care, children’s centres, pre schools, reception classes and as childminders.

    Most candidates will have Level 2 Maths and English (equivalent to GCSE grade C or above), ideally as part of 5 GCSE A-C grades or other comparable qualifications. Apprentices without English or Maths at Level 2 must achieve this prior to the completion of the Apprenticeship.

    You will need to be employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week in a relevant job but we can assist you in finding a placement.

  • Course content

    The apprentice will study the core knowledge, skills and behaviours as laid out in the apprenticeship plan, This will include how to plan and implement inclusive play, promote speech, language and communication development and ensure that everything they do is in line with safeguarding and equality policies and procedures. They will also learn how to use reflective practice to get the most from their own continuous professional development.

    They will acquire all the skills and knowledge to proactively promote children’s health, safety and wellbeing.

    What qualification will I get?

    Level 3 Early Years Educator Standard.

    Apprentices without Level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking their end point assessment.

    Apprentices must successfully complete the Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid. (RQF) or Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid (RQF) Or complete a first aid course delivered by one of the following types of organisations as per the EYFS requirements. Voluntary aid society, member of trade body with an approval and monitoring system, or acknowledged by the Health and Safety Executive

  • Course assessment

    Apprentices are required to attend college once a fortnight, the rest of the training will take place in the workplace with in-house training by the employer. Our childcare assessor will visit and observe the apprentice in practice

    Knowledge – Your apprentice will attend college based classes and be able to access the college’s online learning environment where specially prepared learning materials are available 24/7.

    Skills and Behaviours – This training will be led by yourselves in the workplace. Our Assessors will visit your workplace to observer the apprentice undertaking their normal on-the-job duties, and complete reviews to make sure the apprentice is staying on track with their work. In conjunction with you and your apprentice, the Assessor will develop an action plan to show what knowledge units are being studied, what evidence needs to be prepared, as well as the time and date of the Assessors visits.

    Functional Skills – Individuals without level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking the end-point assessment.

    Fees

    If you have less than 50 staff and the apprentice is between 16-18 then the apprenticeship will be fully funded, you will only need to pay for the apprentice’s wages. If you choose to recruit an apprentice who is 19 or above, you will be required to pay 5% of the cost of the apprenticeship (the government will fund 95%)

    If you are a large employer with 50+ staff, you will be required to fund 5% of the apprenticeship costs regardless of the age of the learner.
