    To prepare you in your potential career in networking the course is designed to cover key topics that will provide skills required to design and build basic networks and network infrastructure as well as the understanding of the technology that underpin them.

    This first course in the 3-course CCNA series introduces architectures, models, protocols, and networking elements – functions needed to support the operations and priorities of Fortune 500 companies to small innovative retailers.

    The course is designed to allow you practical hands-on experience via the CISCO networking platform with hands on access to networking hardware and you will get the chance to build simple local area networks (LANs) yourself.

    The course will provide you with the tools, techniques, and knowledge to understand the design, configuration, and management of a computer network providing you with working knowledge of IP addressing schemes, foundational network security and to be able perform basic configurations for routers and switches.

    By successful completion of this course you will also earn a CISCO Networking Academy badge.

  • Required qualifications

    No formal qualifications are required, but an understanding of computing fundamentals would be beneficial.

  • What skills will I develop?

    • Idea generation and design prototyping of a network
    • Understanding of hardware
    • How to configure a network
    • Understanding of network architecture
    • Approaches of how to troubleshoot issues

    Throughout this first part of the CISCO CCNA qualification you will: Build simple LANs, perform basic configurations for routers and switches, and implement IPv4 and IPv6 addressing schemes.

    Configure routers, switches, and end devices to provide access to local and remote network resources and to enable end-to-end connectivity between remote devices and configure and troubleshoot connectivity within a small network using security best practices.

  • Careers

    This course is intended to provide you with an understanding of computer networking within the CISCO framework – these skills can be applied towards further FE or HE study or applied within a business environment.

    Completion of your course could also lead to a career as a Network or Network Support Engineer, Network Operations Engineer, Network Administrator, Sales Engineer/Virtual Account Manager

    By completing this course successfully, you will earn a Networking Academy badge and course completion certificate but It is recommended that you progress onto part two of the programme CCNA Switching, Routing and Wireless Essentials.

  • English and maths

    There is no formal qualification in English or maths required for this qualification however an expectation of a good level of competency in these areas is advisable.

  • Other important information

    Throughout the course there will be formative assessments to test your knowledge designing and configuring small networks.

    At the end of the course there will be a supervised test and practical which when achieved will allow you to obtain your course certificate and CISCO Networking Academy badge.
