    The Level 4 Certificate for the Advanced Practitioner in Schools and Colleges is suitable for Teaching Assistants who are:

    • already working in a support role in a school/college
    • working at Level 3 and looking to advance
    • considering further learning to advance into leadership positions within the education sector

    This course is the next step of learning for an established teaching assistant. During your studies, you will build on your skills in leadership, mentoring, coaching, and reflection.

    This Level 4 qualification aims to provide professional development opportunities for practitioners working in the school and college workforce. It embraces and builds on the wealth of experience, knowledge and skills gained in your role as a teaching assistant.

    Upon achievement of this qualification you will be equipped as an Advanced Practitioner. The Advanced Practitioner uses leadership skills to mentor others across all roles and responsibilities in the school or college workforce.

    You will cover topics such as mental health and wellbeing, partnership working, supporting children and young people with special educational needs and difficulties and approaches to encourage holistic learning.

    The course is delivered by experienced and knowledgeable staff who have themselves worked in this role.

    You will be observed in your workplace by an experienced assessor.

  • Required qualifications

    English and maths GCSE grade C or 4 and above or Functional Skills at Level 2.

    You must be at least 18 years old and employed in a suitable role within a school or college. Experience, knowledge and understanding of working in schools or colleges in a teaching assistant or equivalent role is essential.

    A level 3 teaching assistant qualification is advantageous, although experience will also be taken into consideration.

    You must be employed within a school or College and have experience of working in a teaching assistant or equivalent role.

    Maths and English will be embedded throughout your course and you will use ICT skills for research and completing assignments.

    Access to computer/printer/internet.
