  • Is this course for you?

    This course is designed or those wishing to progress into a career in counselling. It a stepping stone course to our Level 2 Counselling skills course.

    It is intended for anyone who uses, or would like to use, helping skills at work or in a personal capacity. This may include learners who wish to progress towards further qualifications, or learners who wish to study this programme in order to complement other programmes for example health and social care, children’s care, learning and development, or voluntary and community work.

  • Required qualifications

    There are no specific recommended prior learning requirements for this qualification; however, learners may find it helpful if they have already achieved a Level 1 qualification in healthcare or social care contexts.

  • What skills will I develop?

    This qualification aims to introduce learners to the use of helping skills in everyday life and work, and covers the following topics:

    • Developing self-awareness for the helping relationship
    • Developing listening and communication skills for the helping relationship
    • Managing the helping relationship
  • Careers

    Successful completion of this qualification will support progression into a role where helping skills are required or progression to our Level 2 counselling skills course.
