    Level 2 Award in Gel polish is a part time short course offered by the college for those who are looking for a new challenge or a change in career path. Conducted over one evening a week for 2 weeks, this course specialises in gel polish products, allowing you to take your first steps into being a qualified Nail Technician. This is ideal for beginners and a real benefit to build skills for those who have already completed our nail technology course or previous qualifications in manicure and pedicure.

    It will provide you with the basis of building your knowledge of the nail technology industry, giving you an insight into the nail industry and a perfect stepping stone to one of our other nail course (i.e. Nail art or Nail Technology). As a trainee nail technician, you will learn in a training salon furnished with industry standard equipment and working reception. You will be introduced to the profession through practical demonstrations of key treatments, such as natural gel polish overlays. You will learn a variety of skills, including practical application, health and safety and anatomy and physiology of the hands and nail.

  • Required qualifications

    There are no requirements for entry onto this qualification. It can be completed as a freestanding qualification that could lead into other nail related qualifications.

  • What skills will I develop?

    By completing this qualification, you will become a skilled nail technician in gel polish and will have an improved confidence in customer service. Your essential knowledge will include client care, health and safety and anatomy and physiology of the hand and nail. You will learn through a variety of assessments, including practical and written where you will receive feedback from both your peers and your tutors. Due to the nature of the course being part time and evening based, much of the skills will need to be practiced at home on friends and family, which will allow you to build a clientele. Summative assessments at college will require these clients to have treatments in the professional salon setting. With a mixture of college based and home study, this course offers an ideal setting for those wanting to learn a new skill through flexible learning.

    The beauty sector is steadily growing within the West Midland’s currently employing around 4,000, this is expected to grow around 2.6% within the next 3 years.

  • English and maths

    English and Maths qualifications are an integral part of the working world and will help you prosper. If you do have English or Maths qualification at Grade 4 (Grade C) then the college is here to help. You will have the opportunity to take an additional course if over 19 where you will be assisted through the Maths or English qualification, completing the GSCE exam at the end of the academic year. Within our nails qualification development of maths and English will be embedded into each of the sessions and will help to develop your confidence in dealing with a number of core skills, such as; costs of treatments, effective communication with clients, timings for treatments and the taking bookings.

  • Other important information

    When you begin your journey as a trainee nail technician, you will be expected to wear a uniform and purchase a kit which will become your tools to your success. You can receive information and prices of these from the Learner Services Team on request. The college endeavours to provide its students with the best experience during their qualification, thus additional trips will be a part of the college calendar. These will also require additional costs, however the college is here to assist with bursaries which can discussed further at interview. The college expects all learner to arrive to every class with all required equipment, uniform and a determination to work.
