About apprenticeships

Apprenticeships allow you to enjoy all the benefits of college – great facilities, quality training in recognised qualifications, and improving your maths and English, whilst working in your chosen vocational area and earning a salary.

Real-world experience

As an apprentice you’ll work within a business to gain on-the-job practical training for at least 30 hours per week. You’ll work alongside experienced professionals to develop industry specific skills.

Recognised qualifications

As an apprentice, you’ll gain recognised qualifications. Your specific qualifications will depend on the subject and level of your apprenticeship, but all of them guarantee great opportunities.

Earn whilst you learn

As an apprentice you’ll be paid a salary. Apprentices aged 16-18 must be paid the minimum wage but many employers choose to pay more. You’ll even be paid for any time that you spend at College.

Lots of opportunities

Apprenticeships are available at various levels, so regardless of existing qualifications or experience, there’ll be an opportunity for you whatever your age. We have a dedicated team who can help you choose.

Apprenticeship vacancies

  • Who can apply for an apprenticeship?

Our apprentices work in a wide variety of roles, and you can follow an apprenticeship programme, as long as you are aged 16 and over – there is no upper age limit. Apprenticeships are at least 12 months, and some can be up to 4 years.

Alongside studying the knowledge, skills and behaviours you will require as an apprentice in your chosen field, you will update your maths, English and ICT skills.

The apprenticeships we currently offer range from level 2 to level 4. If you are looking to enrol as an apprentice, but need support to find an employer please have a look at our current vacancies and get in touch.

  • What is the application process?

Please explore the course pages for more in depth information on your preferred area. All prospective apprentices, whether you need support to find your employer, or you already work there, will be invited to an Information, Advice and Guidance session to ensure you have all the information you require about the programme, and that this is the right option for you.

Start dates are throughout the year, and not just in September, so whether you have an employer lined up or not, please get in touch with our friendly team.

  • Employment, Funding and Wages

To commence on an apprenticeship programme you do need to be employee, and you usually need to work 30 hours per week, but it is possible to complete an apprenticeship over a longer time if you do work fewer hours.

The current minimum wage can be found here: www.gov.uk/national-minimum-wage-rates

As an apprentice, your training is funded by the Education and Skills Funding Agency, and/or your employer. Employers can find information about costs on our course pages.

  • Additional support

Do not fear if you feel you may need additional support to complete your apprenticeship for any reason (e.g. physical, mental health, learning support needs, or other personal circumstances.) The college will support you to identify and provide for these additional needs, and will work with you to achieve your goals. As an apprentice you will have access to the same facilities and resources as any other learner at the college.
