Short Courses

Whether you are looking for a work related qualification, or just want to upskill to benefit your business we offer a range of short courses that can be tailored to the individual needs of your business and delivered at your premises or from our own facilities at a time to suit you. We have the right course for you to ensure safe working within your sector.

  • First Aid

Each year in the UK, thousands of people are either killed or injured at work or at home. First aid can reduce these numbers and whether you wish to train for yourself or it is a requirement for your work, there are lots of training sessions to choose from.

Whether you are looking to start your first aid training or looking to refresh your skills, we at South Staffordshire College have the right training for you.

We offer first aid at work, as both the full course and refresh and also offer the emergency first aid one day course for those who need some introduction training to first aid. Training is available at all of our college locations (Rodbaston, Cannock, Lichfield and Tamworth) and run regularly throughout the year. We are also able to deliver the training in the workplace if minimum numbers are met.

    The courses are Qualsafe accredited.

  • Arboriculture

Arboriculture is the cultivation and management of trees, whether it is pruning or felling, there are so many different activities in this area.

Whether you are new to arboriculture or need to refresh your skills, we offer a range of both NPTC certified training or in house refresher training for equipment in this sector including the safe use of chainsaws, chippers and stump grinders to ensure you meet the legal requirements when using this equipment.

Onsite courses run from our Rodbaston College, we also use the local woodland area working closely with local authorities. Our in house training can be tailored to meet your needs using your equipment and at a location to suit you if that’s what is needed.

The short course department work closely with the College’s Apprenticeship team to be able to offer courses for apprentices as well as external companies.

  • Landbased

Landbased working includes a wide range of skills such as farming, horticulture and environmental. It covers the wellbeing of plants, animals and habitats and includes having to use a wide selection of equipment from handheld to ride on. The Land based sector is known to have the highest rate of accidents, some of which can lead to fatal or serious injuries. The most common cause has related to use of machinery.

Courses can be NPTC certified training or in-house refresher training for equipment in this sector including “safe use” training in machinery, from handheld brush cutters to tractors, push lawnmowers to safe chemical use.
