Benefits of working at SSC

Our HR strategy has 4 pillars which are the focus for how we support staff. They are reward & recognition, health & wellbeing, people development and staff engagement. We have invested in a new HR system which gives staff the opportunity to see at a glance, pay, qualifications, skills, memberships, learning activities, development plans, CPD logs, KPI’s and clearly pay and absence amongst others.

Whilst salary is always important, we are very proud of the benefits we offer to staff and we know that staff really appreciate that our priority is to make SSC a really great place to work. We are told regularly by staff that they love our ME days (read more about these below) our generous holiday allowance, how much we contribute to your pensions and more situational benefits like our baby hampers for new parents.

What are the benefits?

We will share a full list of our benefits with you when you join us but here is a flavour of what we offer:

Holiday's (full-time)

Annual leave varies by role: lecturers receive 45 days, managers 40 days and business support staff 35 days, plus 5 Christmas closure days, 2 ME days and bank holidays.

Buy more holidays

Enjoy even more time to recharge by purchasing up to five additional days of annual leave per academic year.

ME days (2 per year)

We close the college for two ME days each year, giving you time to relax, recharge and do whatever makes you happy. ME days take place in July and December.

Wellbeing/celebration day

We bring everyone together at Rodbaston College for a feel‑good wellbeing and celebration day, with activities to enjoy, lunch included and time to celebrate together.

Health support with BUPA

Staff and their immediate families can access confidential counselling, medical advice, and financial and legal support through BUPA.

Work from home

After probation, eligible roles can work flexibly, spending 60% of their time in the office and 40% working from home

Occupational health

Staff have access to occupational health support through HIVE, and can also receive a free flu jab.

Pension scheme

We contribute a minimum of 20.9% to your pension each year, which also includes life assurance worth three times your gross salary.

Disconnect from work

To support work–life balance, staff aren’t expected to work outside their normal hours, and we encourage no emails after 6pm Monday–Thursday or after 4pm on Fridays.

Baby hamper

When staff welcome a new baby, we celebrate the happy news with a baby hamper to help welcome their little one.

Place the face

Recommend new colleagues for hard‑to‑fill roles and get a referral reward upon successful completion of their probation.

College hair salon

Staff can get a 20% discount on hair treatments in the training salon at Tamworth College.

Free will writing

Staff can access free will writing through our partnership with local solicitors, Dunham McCarthy.

Staff lottery

Feeling lucky? Join our optional staff lottery for just £1 a month and be in with a chance to win

On site zoo

Love animals? Staff can enjoy free entry to Rodbaston Animal Zone and 10% off encounters, food, drinks and gifts.

Payroll Giving

Donate to charity through payroll giving, straight from your wages and tax‑efficiently – with the college covering the admin fees.

IVF Policy

We’re proud to be a family‑friendly employer and offer an IVF policy that provides up to 15 days’ paid leave.

Menstruation, Menstrual Health and Menopause

We offer individual, tailored support for menstruation, menstrual health and menopause.

Premature baby support

We offer additional support if your baby is born early, including up to six weeks’ extra paid leave in addition to maternity leave.

Partners of maternity

Paid leave to attend antenatal appointments, plus two weeks’ paid paternity leave to be taken within the first year.
