Vacancy Description:  The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of the construction trade and will gain vast experience from this role.

You will establish skills in the following areas:

  • Bricklaying
  • Plastering
  • Tiling
  • Roofing

You’ll need to enjoy working both indoors and outdoors and be able to cope with all weather conditions.  This job is phyically demanding so a suitable level of fitness is important. The successful candidate must be co-operative and team-orientated. In addition, you will need to be versatile to learn such a variety of trades, the job also requires a good knowledge of calculations.

Employer Description: Paul Szemruk is a sole trader, and has been established for over 20 years within the construction industry.

As part of his work, Paul works on domestic properties across the Staffordshire region, this involves work such as: bricklaying, plastering, tiling, as well as roof repairs and maintenance. Therefore, Paul is looking to recruit an Apprentice to join his established business who he can pass on his skills and invaluable experience within the trade to, in order to assist the right candidate develop their skill-set.

Working Week: Monday – Friday (37.5 hours p/w)


  • Level 2 Diploma in Maintenance Operatives
  • Functional Skills in Maths and English
  • Employment Rights and Responsibility

Vacancy Type: Intermediate Apprenticeship

Duration: 18-24 months

Qualifications: Ideally, candidates will hold GCSE grades A*-C in both Maths and English, or an equivalent qualification. 

Skills Required:

  • Ability to use a tape measure correctly, as well as knowledge of calculations, there a basic understanding of mathmatics is essential for this role
  • Confident in working at heights
  • Using power tools safely, after recieving adequate training
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Having your own transport would be an advantage although not essential, ideally individuals will be actively looking to gain their driving licence.


Future Prospects: Ability to succeed in working for themselves to a high-standard of building/renovation projects.

Things to Consider: Candidates must be able to travel to Hednesford daily on time and make their own way home from Hednesford at the end of the working day.

This job is physically demanding and therefore a suitable level of physical fitness will be required.
