Additional Learning Support

Additional Learning Support

Fully confidential service

A learning problem or physical disability need not prevent you from doing your chosen course. We have friendly, qualified support staff who can assist you with information and guidance before and during your course. We also have student mentors who offer a fully confidential service to allow you to gain support with a range of issues.

In-class support workers

We have links with agencies that provide specialist support in a variety of areas. For example, you are entitled to an initial assessment to find whether extra help with English or Maths might be of benefit. So if you are worried about anything and not sure who to ask or what to do, just contact us.

Typical examples of support include:

  • In-class support workers for learning or physical disability
  • personal and mobility care
  • dyslexia screening
  • educational psychology assessment
  • sign language interpreters / lip speakers
  • note takers
  • specialist support for visually impaired students
  • specialist support for students on the Autistic Spectrum
  • additional numeracy or literacy teaching
  • additional English teaching for students whose first language is not English
  • Specialist equipment and software
  • Special exam arrangements

Students with learning difficulties or disabilities

Our equal opportunities policy commits us to providing the widest possible access to learning for all our students. We are positive about disability, and students with dyslexia, hearing and sight problems have access to specialist equipment and software with help from our learning support specialists. We can also help with classroom support and personal care requirements. Wheelchair users have good access on most of our sites. Disabled Toilets and dedicated parking spaces are also available.
