The "World Cultures" event at the College's Cannock campus was organised entirely by the Hair & Beauty students and linked to their Key Skills, Working with Others qualification.

Level 3 Beauty students used fellow students to do their make up as part of their photographic make-up module and Level 2 and 3 Hairdressing students created hair designs on models as part of their fashion design module.

The competitions were judged by high-profile local experts in their field - Amanda Winkle from Freestyle Hair and Treasure House Make Up and Collette Doyle from Ellisons judged the beauty categories, whilst the hair designs were judged by Mario Delli Compagin, from The HC group and Christine Smith Toon from Teddy's Hair Design.

Parents, families and friends were invited to attend the finale, as models walked down the catwalk showing off their make up and hair creations and guests enjoyed a buffet laid on by the College's catering students.

At the prize giving ceremony, the winners of the Beauty competition were announced, with Laura Smith claiming first place and Emma Stotzel, Zara Wilkes, Chantal Taylor and Emma Braddick taking second, third, fourth and fifth spots respectively. Thalia Evans claimed first prize in Hair Design, with second place going to Kimberley Ennis and Zoe Meredith taking third place.

During the evening, students sold raffle tickets to support Cancer Research and Ann Lloyd, a local volunteer representative for the charity, was on hand to give her support to the fundraising activities. A total of £201.60 was raised on the night and Ann was delighted with the results. "Cancer Research UK relies entirely on donations to fund groundbreaking research which is why it's so important that fundraising events like this are a success" she commented.

The whole evening was captured on video by Armoris, the College's in-house production company, with Level 3 evening class photographic students taking pictures of the event as part of their course work.

The College acknowledged the help and support given by the judges and prize sponsors Eden Day Spa, Boots the Chemist, Beauty Express, Ellisons, EWD and Wella.

All in all, a fantastic event supported by various faculties within the College - a real team effort!
