South Staffordshire College welcomes new arrivals

14.jpgSouth Staffordshire College’s Rodbaston campus has welcomed some new arrivals on the farm.

First to arrive were 10 weaner pigs, purchased at just 8-10 weeks of age.  Five male and 5 female Large White X Duroc pigs were brought so that the Agriculture students could measure their feed intake, growth rates and feed conversion efficiency.  The pigs are descendants from the original Rodbaston pig herd many years ago.

The Pedigree Hereford herd have also seen two new arrivals.  Auckvale Beauty was purchased from Tom and John Kemp of County Durham.  At 2 and a half years old, she is due to calve this August.  And Badlingham Blossom the 156th was brought from A G Wright & Sons (Farms), Ely, Cambridgeshire – a yearling heifer who will also calve for the first time this year.

The students are working hard with the new arrivals and the rest of the College Pedigree Herefords, including Llancillo hall Judy the 4th, to get the in tip top condition for the County Shows.
