South Staffordshire College is backing the Olympic Games

South Staffordshire College is backing the Olympic Games 2012 by joining the Get Set Network, a special community of schools and colleges using the London 2012 Games to inspire learners of all ages and abilities to get involved in Values-based projects and activities.

Students at South Staffordshire College will embark on a range of activities in the run up to and during the Olympics, including the opportunity to obtain a L2 Stewarding qualification to allow them to apply to be a steward at one of the Olympic venues and as members of the Get Set scheme, the College can register for tickets for students to visit some of the Olympic events.

Trudie McGuinness, Director of Learner Services at South Staffordshire College is confident both students and tutors will benefit from the Get Set Scheme. “Built around the Olympic and Paralympics Values, the projects will encourage young people to play an active part in their own learning, to develop leadership skills and to challenge themselves to try new things”, she said.

As a context for teaching and learning across the curriculum the London 2012 Games are unbeatable and the Olympic and Paralympics values - respect, friendship, equality, excellence, inspiration, courage and determination – reflect the qualities that South Staffordshire College instill in their students to set them on the right path to fulfilling their personal ambitions.
