In 2009 over 4,000 people registered to compete in a WorldSkills UK competition and all the Beauty Therapy students competing in the 2010 shortlisting have done extremely well in regional and national competitions to qualify.

South Staffordshire College Ambassador and former student Charlotte Burford, who achieved Bronze at the 2009 WorldSkills Final in Calgary, was one of the appointed WorldSkills judges and played a key role in the 2 day competition, giving students a demonstration of a back massage at she did in Canada to show them the standards required for WorldSkills. The girls then had to complete the massage, displaying other movements that they would use.

Charlotte drew on her past experience as she watched the students competing for places. She said "The competition was very close and everyone performed well. The four successful students moving onto the next competition (squad selection) in November are Samantha Slater, Katie Wright, Lauren Harris and Hayley Wright who will now undergo intensive training and then compete for potential selection in Squad UK."
