Students from South Staffordshire College have enjoyed a visit from the Royal Marines.
Public Service students from the College’s Cannock campus listened to the Marines comparing their roles during war-time and peace-time. They were shown what kit was packed in the Marines’ own burgans and why it was packed that way. The students were also given a demonstration on how to cook in "field" conditions and demonstrated how to work as a team "Buddy Buddy system".
Carl Edwards, Public Services Co-ordinator, said “These visits are an integral part of the Public Service course. The students are given up-to-date information from the visiting public services, allowing them to use the knowledge they have learned to complete their course work. Without the help from the Royal Marines and other public services, the College would not be able to provide the 'hands-on' information and overall experience of the course which is really necessary for the success of the students.”
The students really enjoyed the session with the Royal Marines as it gave them firsthand knowledge of team work. They also had an opportunity to ask the Marines lots of questions, which were all answered in detail.
The visit was a great success and the Royal Marines have been invited back next year.
