South Staffordshire College’s Rodbaston Campus is proudly supporting the equine students who will shortly represent the College in the National Equine Inter-College competitions.
In the past, the equine team has won a number of Inter-College competitions and also taken part in the International British Open Show championships.
The team is currently in training with equine lecturers Lindsay McCallum and Joanne Parkes in order to perfect its skills. This includes tasks such as rider training, fitness, ethics and behaviour. The campaign starts with visits to Brooksby and Moulton colleges for inter-college competitions in March and May.
During the competitions, the students will have to demonstrate their dressage and show jumping abilities, before a final test in general knowledge.
The team with the highest cumulative score from all three tests will be crowned the inter-college champion at that venue.
Joanne Parkes, course leader for the Extended Diploma in Horse Management said: “We are extremely proud of the students who will be taking part as ambassadors for South Staffordshire College. They are certainly an asset to the College."

The Equestrian Centre at Rodbaston Campus is well-resourced and an excellent place for students to gain experience. It has an indoor arena, a covered outdoor arena and an outdoor school. The arenas are regularly used for dressage and show jumping competitions, and are also available for private and group hire.

Rodbaston Campus is set in 180 hectares of parkland and provides Further Education courses for land based activities such as Land Management, Agriculture, Floristry, Fisheries, Animal Care, Horticulture and Equestrian.
