The Adult and Community Education department at South Staffordshire College have been working in partnership with the Job Centre Plus in
Cannock to help local residents secure new employment opportunities through a series of employability workshops.
The one day workshops, which were delivered over 3 days earlier this month at the college’s Cannock Campus, enabled job seekers from throughout the community to work alongside college staff to develop their interview skills and learn techniques for securing their next role.
The scheme, which was designed to help prepare suitable candidates for a variety of potential posts has proven to be a huge success, with 41 of the 107 participants having already secured roles at ‘The Range’ who are due to open a new store in Cannock this April.
With this success coming within weeks of the candidates completing the course, the stage is now set for other job seekers to benefit too and plans are underway for additional workshops over the coming months.
Job Centre Plus Recruitment Consultant Jan Webster, is delighted with the success of the scheme and says “For 41 job offers to have been made to Job Centre Plus Customers is a fantastic achievement. I’d like to thank all of the tutors and staff at South Staffordshire College for their help and support.”
Speaking on Behalf of the college, Adult and Community Education Manager Nicola Humphries adds “We were delighted to be asked to work in partnership with Job Centre Plus to help prepare their candidates for interview and it’s extremely rewarding to hear that so many of them have now been successful in securing employment. We would like to congratulate those who have secured new jobs and wish them all the very best as they start their new adventure.”
These workshops are just one of many opportunities that the college offers to adults who want to boost their prospects, develop new skills or find a new hobby. Available to people aged 19 plus, the college also offer a range of part-time and short courses in a diverse range of subjects from pottery and sculpture, creative writing, photography, languages, dog grooming and many more.
Running on various days and times throughout the week including evenings and weekends, the courses are available at a variety of locations across the region, including the college campuses and local outreach centres.
