Two students from South Staffordshire College have won through to the finals of a major national floristry competition.

Jessica Andrews from Stapleton, Leicester and Georgianna Dunn from Northampton, Level 4 Floristry students at the College’s Rodbaston campus, competed in regional heats at Bath and Covent Garden respectively and had to win to gain a place at the RHS Young Chelsea Florist of the Year competition, one of two new categories at the 2010 RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

The girls were tasked with designing a funeral tribute for a keen gardener and their individual creations impressed the judges so much they both secured top slots, sending them through to the final of this major floristry competition.

Course tutor Laura Leong is absolutely over the moon that she has 2 students in this prestigious competition and said “To have one student in the RHS Young Chelsea Florist of the Year competition is wonderful but to have two from the College going through is just incredible.  The girls have worked hard to achieve this success and we are all keeping our fingers crossed”.
