College takes Champion Title at County Show

South Staffordshire College has kept up its run of successes at county shows with a first place at the UK’s largest one day agricultural show.

Students and staff from Rodbaston campus, South Staffordshire College’s land-based facility, took three Herefords to the Nantwich & South Cheshire Show, where the cattle competition is very strong due to its location.

Badlingham Blossom 156th, Llancillo Hall Oyster Lass 2nd (Oyster) and her calf Rodbaston Oyster Lass 2nd (Gladys) took to the arena in various categories.

Blossom’s class (Heifer born since 01/01/09) was by far the largest of the day and she did extremely well to take 2nd place.

Oyster then competed in the Cow with Calf class and took first place beating other show winners.

And in the Born in 2010 Calf class Gladys behaved impeccably to take the title of Champion Calf.   At just three and a half months old, Gladys is the College’s first calf by their bull Haven Dynamite, appearing in only her third show and the first time she had been parted for any time from her mum.

South Staffordshire College’s Rodbaston campus specialises in providing further and higher education courses for land-based activities such as agriculture and they are celebrating their best result this season.  “We have been competing at larger shows this year with more entries and a higher standard of competition and so we are especially proud of our “ladies”, said Dr Sarah Winson, Agriculture Progression Coach and organiser of the show team.
