Olympics 2012

Olympics 2012

South Staffordshire College has joined the Get Set Network which provides lots of opportunities for our learners to embark on a range of activities in the run up to and during the Olympics.  These include;

  • Learners will be given the opportunity to obtain a L2 Stewarding qualification. Once qualified they will be offered the opportunity to apply to be a steward at one of the Olympic venues if they choose to do so.
  • Learners will be given the opportunity to help out in a variety of roles leading up to and on the day of the event. Working with Lichfield District Council and potentially Staffordshire County Council.
  • We have the opportunity to work with Lichfield District Council in the production of a floating art display.
  • Get Set scheme want to break the world record for having the most people take part in a dance routine during May 2012.
  • Support a Country outside of the UK initiative in order to learn more about the customs of that country. Activity will be offered on Term 3’s Engagement Programme but will also be made  available as a classroom activity for tutors to run from March 2012
  • As Members of the Get Set scheme we have been able to register for some free tickets to various Olympic venues/events.
  • National World Sports Week - 25th June 2012. The Get Set Scheme is encouraging members to hold a sports day during the week to promote sport. We are looking to invite local schools to this event possibly to participate and have a large scale sports day including as many different schools as possible.

Please note that many of these activities are still in the planning stages so we will update this web page with more information and confirmed activities over the coming weeks and months.
