Agriculture is never far from the news these days, in an ever-changing world there is usually one constant – the need to feed people.

Do you have a passion to work with animals, crops and machinery?

Studying at the Rodbaston College will give you a great start in the agricultural sector with access to the college estate, with its variety of habitats and farm systems – as well as working along side the local farming community with trips, guest speakers and practical sessions.

If you like the hands on approach, this course will be ideal and can lead to employment, a level 3 qualification or an agricultural apprenticeship.

  • Required qualifications

To study at level 2 you must have at least 3 GCSE’s at grade 3 and above, or equivalent qualifications.

  • What skills will I develop?

You will participate in a range of skills-based activities and assessments that include the use of machinery (such as tractors and power tools), hand tools (for use in general estate and farm maintenance) and also scientific equipment (for conducting soil and crop tests).

Modern agriculture is seeing great innovation in how it is carried out and you will gain understanding of precision farming and use of technologies such as drones and GPS machinery.

Staying safe and healthy at work are also major aspects of this course and the skills and knowledge required to do this are embedded in most modules studied.

A wider understanding of the agricultural industry, the opportunities it offers and the role it plays within the UK economy form the backbone of many lessons when covering topics that enable you to understand crops and how they grow, animals and how to look after them and machinery and what it takes to maintain it.
